Surgery report
Procedure - Fracture repair - ulna
Performed by - Dr. Sokoloff
Surgery time - 77 minutes

Patient placed in left lateral recumbency with right wing extended
and the area was aseptically prepped. An incision was made over
the fracture site and the callus formation at the surgical site
was debrided. The fragments of the radius were carefully elevated
for assessment. A 0.7mm intramedullary pin was inserted into
the carpus and through the radius, advancing forward until the
other fragment was in line with the proximal portion of the fracture,
where the pin could be advanced completely through securing both
fragments of the radius. Then further debridement occured to
find both fragments of the ulna. Once the ulna was found, a 1.1mm
intramedullary pin was advanced at the proximal end of the ulna
(closer to the olecranon region) and advanced through the medullary
cavity to the distal portion of the fracture, until both segments
were secured. The incision was closed using 4-0 PDS in a simple
continuous pattern. Once closed, the pins were curved to avoid
puncture of sharp ends and a bandage was placed using telfa pads,
cast padding, teflon bandages and vetwrap. A wing to body wrap
was placed, as well as, the right foot was placed in a wrap to
avoid potential interference with the bandage or wrap. There
were no complications and the patient recovered uneventfully.

Took patient to perform radiographs--
Taken from carrier, masked on 2% O2 then induced on 5% isoflurane and once under anesthesia, reduced to 2% and maintained.

VD, right lateral, H view and hanging drop view radiographs obtained.

There is noticeable fracture of the right ulna and radius. This fracture could be classified as a complete oblique fracture on the ulna and radius. There appears to be some increased opacity around the borders of the fracture, indicating proliferation or healing. No gas formation could be appreciated on radiographs nor any foreign material. Mild soft tissue swelling around the fracture site could be appreciated as well.

A full wing to body wrap was re-applied after radiographs were completed. The patient recovered well from gas anesthesia with no complications and recovery could be classified as smooth.
